Telenor's Canal Digital to bring TiVo to Scandinavia
Telenor's Canal Digital agreed with TiVo to introduce and distribute TiVo products to Canal Digital Direct-to-Home (DTH) satellite customers in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed. The TiVo product will be available exclusively through Canal Digital where it will serve as Canal Digital's next generation platform, integrating linear satellite and terrestrial TV channels, Canal Digital's video-on-demand service, and a variety of current and future 'OTT' services. The agreement marks significant milestones in the evolution and growth of both companies. Apart from expanding into a thriving television market, this represents a highly strategic satellite platform with TiVo software and Canal Digital's first 'networked' box that provides a variety of ground-breaking capabilities like universal search, home networking, and integration with mobile devices. By partnering with TiVo, Canal Digital gets access to feature-rich and consumer friendly television software, while avoiding significant in-house development costs and the complexity of piecemeal alternatives. Canal Digital and TiVo will be working with Conax for conditional access solutions as the companies implement and launch an integrated product.
