Televisa sells rest of Iusacell to Salinas Group
Mexico's Salinas Group has purchased a 50 percent stake in mobile operator Iusacell from broadcasting group Televisa. As a result of the USD 717 million deal, Salinas Group will now fully own the country's third-largest mobile operator. Salinas Group said it is in the process of selecting an international partner to help boost Iusacell's growth. In a statement to the Mexican stock exchange, Televisa said it will make a book loss of around USD 320 million on the sale. The transaction is subject to approval by regulators. Iusacell has around 8 million customers.

AT&T has reached an agreement with Mexican holding Grupo Salinas to acquire mobile operator Iusacell for USD 2.5 billion, inclusive of Iusacell debt. The Commissioner of the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT), Elena Estavillo, said that Televisa will be responsible for a fine imposed on Iusacell, before Salinas Group purchases a 50 percent stake in the mobile operator, reports El Universal. The IFT had fined Iusacell MXN 53.8 million for violating conditions imposed by the old regulator, the Federal Competition Commission (Cofeco), upon the acquisition of Cablevision Monterrey.
