Telia Finland CEO moves to head of Telia Norway as Foss leaves group for new challenges

Telia Company said that Telia Finland CEO Stein-Erik Vellan will take over as CEO of Telia Norway on 04 December, succeeding Abraham Foss, who will leave to seek challenges elsewhere. The role of Finnish CEO will temporarily be held by Jonas Bengtsson, group general counsel and head of corporate affairs. Heli Partanen, head of consumer business in Finland, will become acting vice-CEO with full operational responsibility, and will be leading day-to-day business in Finland.

Vellan joined Telia Company in January 2017 and has previously worked in many different management positions in telecoms globally for almost 20 years. Telia group CEO Christian Luiga said he is confident that Vellan will make Telia Norway even more competitive in the company years, after making the operator more relevant to its Finnish customers.

Luiga thanked Foss for his contribution, including integrating Tele2's Norwegian business, Phonero and Get/TDC, and doubling service revenues and increasing EBITDA by 2.5 times.

Recruitment of a new CEO for Telia Finland will begin immediately, the operator said.

Telia Finland said that Lassi Nummi will succeed Pekka Aako as CEO of its Assembly subsidiary on 01 February and will also participate in developing the Telia Esports Series league. He joins the company from a position as head of marketing and e-sports at Rovio Entertainment subsidiary Hatch.

Telia Finland names 3D content app provider Gribbing as winner of Extended Reality competition

Telia Finland has named software company Gribbing as the winner the EUR 30,000 prize in its Extended Reality (XR) innovation competition, for the product. Grib x Telia. Gribbing will now have the opportunity to cooperate with Telia throughout the Nordic and Baltic region. Grib x Telia enables users to create 3D content on their smartphones via an application.

Telia Norway said it is now allowing Telia X unlimited mobile data customers to put several subscribers on the same bill. The first subscriber costs NOK 579 and each extra one costs NOK 399 per month.

Telia gains EU approval for Bonnier Broadcasting acquisition with conditions

Telia Company has announced that the European Commission has approved its acquisition of Bonnier Broadcasting, including TV4, MTV and C More. The commission said this is conditional on full compliance with a commitments package offered by Telia to ensure competition on the Nordic broadcasting market. The commitments will be applicable in Finland and Sweden for a duration of ten years.

Telia Norway merges consumer home and mobile divisions, sets up two new arms

Telia Norway said it is making organisational changes next year to improve its competitive ability. It will merge its Consumer Mobile and Consumer Home division from 01 January 2020 and this new unit will be led by Pal Rune Kaalen. At the same time, it is establishing two new divisions, namely Digital & Analystics led by Geir Jangas, and Consumer Sales.

Telenor says ownership change contributes to Q3 EBITDA dip at DNA

Telenor has reported third quarter figures for its new Finnish arm, after it consolidated DNA on 21 August 2019. It said EBITDA fell slightly to NOK 290 million, affected by non-recurring costs related to the ownership change, as well as increased sales and marketing cost. Adjusted for non-recurring effects, EBITDA increased by 4 percent, Telenor said.

Telia Norway Q3 net sales fall 2.7% like-for-like as equipment sales drop

Telia has reported a 32.8 percent rise in Norwegian third quarter net sales in reported currency to SEK 3.81 billion from SEK 2.87 billion, but on a like-for-like basis, net sales fell by 2.7 percent as equipment sales dropped to SEK 454 million from SEK 558 million a year earlier. Telia Norway said its corporate segment has added 60,000 customers on an organic basis so far this year.

Telia Finland Q3 service revenues hit by copper network wind-down, reported EBITDA rises

Telia Finland said third quarter net sales in reported currency fell 0.3 percent year on year to SEK 3.90 billion but on a like-for-like basis, net sales fell 3.5 percent. Service revenues rose to SEK 3.32 billion from SEK 3.26 billion in reported currency but were down 1.8 percent on a like-for-like basis. This drop was mostly driven by a 3.4 percent fall in fixed service revenues as Telia continues dismantling its copper network.

Telia Finland cuts 75 jobs, redeploys 270 people

Telia Finland said it is cutting about 75 jobs and redeploying approximately 270 employees to other group units, following negotiations with representatives of some 1,500 personnel. The reforms will begin in October as it switches to a new operating model that aims to make the operator more efficient, simpler, and quicker to respond to customer needs.
