Kalle Muhonen, broadband service business manager, said Hybrid Broadband will make surfing the web easier for more than 1 million Finnish households. It supports several users and makes it easier to watch TV, even in HD. Muhonen said that in Pori, for example, only about one in ten homes has been able to get fast and reliable fixed broadband from Telia, but the new hybrid network will enable nearly every household in the city to watch elite league ice hockey.
Hybrid Broadband targets especially areas where fibre optics are not yet available and where landline speeds lag behind mobile speeds. In turn, the fixed line supports the mobile network during times of peak demand. The home Hybrid Broadband service includes a router in the monthly subscription, and Telia provides it with regular security updates.
