Telia, Telenor win 900 MHz frequencies in Norwegian auction

Norwegian electronic communications regulator Nkom said it has awarded two blocks each in the auction of frequencies in the 900 MHz band to Telia Norway and Telenor Norway. The auction was concluded on 29 May and there were four blocks of 2x5 MHz available. Telia will pay NOK 394.00 million (EUR 41.8 million) and Telenor will pay NOK 396.35 million.

The auction's winners and other operators already holding licences in the 900 MHz band will now have the option of negotiating placements within the band. The preliminary negotiation phase could last up to four weeks.

Telia and Telenor already held licences for the frequencies, valid until 31 December 2017. The minimum price per block in the auction was NOK 140 million.

Telia Norway Q2 service revenue boosted by wholesale growth, ARPU rises

Telia Norway said that net sales in the second quarter grew by 3.2 percent in local currency, with service revenues up 3.1 percent thanks to wholesale revenue growth. Net sales in reported currency increased 19.2 percent to SEK 2.58 billion from SEK 2.16 billion, largely driven by consolidation of Phonero. Organic EBITDA growth of 12.9 percent was amplified by the consolidation of Phonero.

Telia Norway starts Svitsj annual handset trade-in system

Telia Norway said it has launched an annual mobile handset trade-in facility called Svitsj. There is no subscription commitment period but the hire-purchase contract runs for 24 months. Svitsj is available to new and existing customers alike with any Telia Smart subscription, either online or from one of Telia's 64 shops.

Telia to absorb Chess retail client marketing operations

Telia Norway said it will migrate the customer services, marketing, analysis and technology resources of its budget brand Chess to Telia facilities in Trondheim and Oslo in autumn. This will simplify and concentrate operations, boosting its ability in the private customer marketing and securing competence for the future, it said. It will retain Chess as a brand and it will still be led by Arve Andreassen.

Nkom confirms start of 900 MHz auction on 23 May

Norwegian communications regulator Nkom has confirmed that the auction of frequencies in the 900 MHz band will begin on 23 May as planned. The auction concerns two lots of 20 MHz (four blocks of 2 x 5 MHz) in the ranges 880-915 MHz and 925-960 MHz. These are licensed to Telia Norway and Telenor Norway until 31 December 2017. The minimum price per block is NOK 140 million.

Telia migrates Oslo core links from Telenor to Broadnet

Telia Norway said it has entered a fibre agreement with Broadnet to boost its network quality and capacity, and to reduce vulnerability on its grid in Oslo as it progresses towards the introduction of 5G. The operator is migrating from Telenor as its supplier of access connectivity to its base stations in the capital.

Telenor Norway Q1 results dented by data rollover

Telenor Norway posted total revenues of NOK 6.23 billion in the first quarter of 2017 compared with a restated figure of NOK 6.33 billion for the same quarter a year earlier. EBITDA before other items dropped to NOK 2.58 billion from a restated NOK 2.77 billion a year earlier after the launch of data rollover and the reduction in sales of high-margin fixed legacy products The EBITDA margin shrank to 41.3 percent from 43.7 percent.

Telia Norway lifts Q1 local currency sales 5%, EBITDA up 21%

Telia Company said that net sales at its Norwegian operation improved by 12.5 percent in reported currency to SEK 2.29 billion from SEK 2.03 billion, and by 4.0 percent in local currency, excluding acquisitions and disposals. Forex fluctuations had a positive effect of 8.5 percent. The number of mobile subscriptions fell by 33,000 in the quarter.

Telia gains clearance to buy Phonero after all

The Norwegian Competition Authority has approved Telia Company's acquisition of enterprise mobile operator Phonero, saying it will not significantly reduce competition and could benefit customers by lowering costs. In February, it had signalled that it might block the deal. Telia announced in November that it was buying Phonero at an enterprise value of NOK 2.3 billion on a cash and debt-free basis.

Norwegian govt lowers 900 MHz cap after Telia complaint

The Norwegian Department of Transport and Communications said it has lowered the ceiling for new 900 MHz spectrum allocation, on competition grounds. The cap has been reduced from 2 x 20 MHz to 2 x 15 MHz, and it will instruct regulator Nkom accordingly. The frequencies will be assigned following an auction which the ministry hopes will take place before summer 2017.

Telia objects to Norway 900 MHz auction rules again - report

Telia Company is renewing its complaint about the rules for the Norwegian auction of frequencies in the 900 MHz band, according to an excerpt from an article on the Insidetelecom.no website. It said the Ministry of Transport and Communications was taking the complaint seriously, although the content was the same as Telia's previous objection. Regulator Nkom hopes to hold the auction before summer, it added.

Nkom plans to hold 900 MHz auction in H1 2017

Norwegian electronic communications regulator Nkom said it is resuming preparations for the auction of frequencies in the 900 MHz band, and expects to hold it in the first half of 2017. It had originally intended to begin the auction in 01 June 2016 for two times approximately 20 MHz of spectrum in the ranges 880-915 MHz and 925-960 MHz, split into four blocks of two times 5 MHz each. The permits for these blocks are currently held by Telia and Telenor but expire on 31 December 2017.
