Telia threatens to sell Latvia stakes if LMT, Lattelecom don't merge

Telia Company sent a letter to the Latvian government saying that it could sell its stakes in Latvian fixed operator Lattelecom and the mobile operator LMT if the companies aren't merged, reports Db.lv. The letter was signed by Robert Anderson, the senior vice-president of Telia Company.

The letter includes a statement that Telia Company won't be able to have a positive impact on the strategy of the companies if the merger isn't carried out. Telia's strategy throughout the Balkans and Nordic region has been to merge both its fixed and mobile operations and rebrand everything under the Telia name. If this does not happen Latvia, where the company is a co-shareholder with the state, the Sweden-based operator said it could revise the status of the assets, from strategic investments to financial investments.

Telia and its affiliated companies own a 49 percent stake in LMT and a 51 percent stake in Lattelecom.
