TeliaSonera picks NSN, Ericsson for LTE roll-out

Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks have won contracts to roll out LTE networks for TeliaSonera in Sweden and Norway. Ericsson said it was selected as the sole supplier of the common core network as well as providing LTE radio access. NSN said its two-year contract covers LTE radio equipment, LTE network management systems, and LTE multi-vendor integration and care services. TeliaSonera started LTE services in late 2009 in Oslo and Stockholm, covering the city centres to test the services. The new agreements with Ericsson and Nokia Siemens Networks cover network roll-out during 2010 and 2011.

The operator said the network roll-out will continue to Sweden's 25 largest municipalities and recreation areas and to Norway's four largest municipalities. Its Norwegian subsidiary Netcom said the new cities to receive LTE will be Trondheim, Bergen and Stavanger. Huawei will continue to finalize the city network in Oslo. TeliaSonera chose NSN and Ericsson over Huawei for the additional roll-out as they offered more attractive prices and commercial terms, TeliaSonera CTO Lars Klasson told Dow Jones. Further roll-out of the LTE networks will depend on market demand for the services, he said.
