TeliaSonera trials Huawei's G.Fast platform 
Huawei announced that TeliaSonera is the first network operator in the Nordics to perform a field trial using Huawei G.fast copper broadband technology. The platform has been deployed in the TeliaSonera network in Helsinki, Finland with live customers and is delivering real services. With this technology, TeliaSonera can provide up to 1Gbps bandwidth to customers connected by the legacy copper network, improving the customer experience of fixed network broadband services such as TV.

G.Fast technology is a faster version of DSL that can offer speeds of 1Gbps over a distance of up to 250 meters using copper. TeliaSonera has focused on TV and entertainment services, and the demand for capacity from customers is constantly increasing as a result. The field trial demonstrates that the G.Fast technology meets not only the requirement of current services, but also offers the bandwidth for future broadband and video services, such as 4KTV, which has four times the resolution of HDTV and consumes 100Mbps bandwidth per channel.

Ukkoverkot, Huawei to deploy LTE 450MHz network in Finland

Ukkoverkot, a mobile service provider in Finland, and Huawei signed a contract to deploy a LTE 450MHz network at the LTE 450MHz Global event in Amsterdam. Broadband Industry is working full speed on G.Fast

G.Fast will be the next evolution for broadband over copper networks. Over a short loop, typically 100 meters, broadband speeds of over 1 Gbps are possible. The ITU has approved the G.Fast standards on 04 April, with finalization expected in December. The network industry has some comprehensive testing ahead, explains Robin Mersh, CEO of standards group Broadband Forum. He sees no reason for network operators not to deploy G.Fast. ITU confirms G.fast standards

The International Telecommunications Union (ITU) has confirmed the final G.fast standards. ITU-T 9700 and ITU-T 9701 received preliminary approval in December 2013 and the definitions were confirmed on 04 April. G.Fast is the latest evolution of DSL, and the technology is expected to be ready for commercial deployment in 2016 at the earliest. G.Fast uses TDD (Time Division Duplex) technology across a much wider frequency range than ADSL or VDSL, namely up to 106 MHz or 2012 MHz.
