Telkom, BCX withdraw Icasa application for licence transfer
South Africa's operator Telkom and Business Connexion (BCX) have withdrawn their application to the Independent Communications Authority of SA for licences to be transferred from BCX to Telkom. In a joint statement, the two organisations said that, having reviewed the Electronic Communication Act, with particular focus on sections 13(1) and 31(2A), the view has been taken that the application for the transfers of licences will not be required, hence their withdrawal. However, they stress that the transaction between Telkom and BCG remains on course for completion, pending final approval from the South African Competition Tribunal. In addition, Telkom and BCX remain in ongoing discussions with Icasa, as the regulator of this industry.
