Telkom South Africa appoints Taukobong as CEO designate

Telkom South Africa announced that Serame Taukobong is the Group CEO Designate with effect from 1 October. Taukobong is currently CEO of the Telkom Consumer Business and a Group Executive Committee Member, and he will assume the role of Group CEO after Sipho Maseko’s official exit on 30 June 2022.

Telkom chairperson Sello Moloko said Taukobong is a seasoned executive, with deep experience in the ITC sector in South Africa and the continent. Moloko said that Telkom was pleased that its extensive search confirmed the calibre of Telkom’s people.

Taukobong said that after working under Maseko’s leadership for three years, he knows he will be taking over a solid business with a capable and committed team. Taukobong previously served as an executive in the MTN group and joined Telkom as chief executive for its consumer business group in June 2018. He has extensive experience in telecommunications having spent approximately ten years at MTN where he held several senior roles, including Chief Operating Officer and later CEO of MTN Ghana.

As CEO of the Telkom Consumer Business, the Mobile business customer base grew three-fold to 15 million and its revenue almost doubled to ZAR 20 billion within a three-year period. Under his leadership, Telkom Mobile has become the third-largest mobile business in South Africa.
