Telstra launches HD Voice on mobile network
Telstra has introduced high definition voice calling across its entire Next G mobile network. Customers calling between HD-compatible phones can access the higher quality calls at no extra cost. The HD Voice service uses Wideband Adaptive Multi-Rate coding (WB-AMR) technology. A software upgrade from Ericsson on Telstra's existing core and WCDMA network, based on an existing contract between the companies, allows access to the new service. Ericsson said this is the world's largest HD voice network, covering over 2.1 million square kilometers.
