
The operator said it reached the peak network traffic level of the previous free data day by 08.00 hours on 03 April and stayed above that level until midnight. A few spots experienced localised congestion on the network due to heavy traffic, but Telstra said overall the network performed well. The company reiterated that it's conducting a through review after two major network outages already this year.
Changes have been implemented to increase the capacity and path diversity of critical signalling channels and a temporary layer of traffic management protection has been added to minimise the impact of events like those on 9 February and 17 March. Within a few days Telstra said it expects to augment capacity in a key platform (Home Location Register – Front End) that manages customer subscription data. In conjunction with its partners Ericsson, Cisco and Juniper it has assembled a team of internal and external engineering experts to do an end-to-end review of the network.
