TIM eyeing temporary layoffs for 4,000 staff - report

Telecom Italia (TIM) has failed to reach an agreement with trade unions over plans to cut its 50,000-strong domestic workforce and has filed a request at the labour ministry to carry out a temporary layoff scheme as part of its 'DigiTIM' 2018-20 business plan. "This project will be analysed and discussed with the trade union organisations with the desirable prospect of swiftly reaching an agreement," said the company said in a statement. The state-sponsored scheme could see up to 4,000 workers stay at home for a certain period as TIM adjusts employment levels to the demands of the market and
