Tizen first release goes live
The first release of the new Tizen device software has been launched by the Tizen Association. First announced in September 2011, the industry group was created by the LiMo Foundation and Linux Foundation. The Tizen Association started operations on 01 January and will work on industry engagement and in-market support for the Tizen software platform. The association's board comprises mobile industry leaders Intel, NEC Casio, NTT Docomo, Panasonic, Samsung, SK Telecom, Telefonica and Vodafone. The platform is Linux-based open source, cross-architecture device software, including an operating system, HTML5 application framework and customizable user experience. Tizen will target multiple device categories including smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, netbooks and in-vehicle infotainment systems. The LiMo Foundation has now been incorporated into Tizen Association, while the engineering of the Tizen software platform is taking place within the Tizen open source project hosted by the Linux Foundation. The alpha version of Tizen is available as open source through the Tizen.org project page.
