TPG Telecom to use NetLink fibre infra for 5G trial in Singapore
Singapore's NetLink Group has announced it will support Australian operator TPG Telecom in its 5G trial across Singapore Science Park 1 and 2. NetLink Group’s operating arm, NetLink Trust, will provide the fibre network infrastructure to connect TPG Telecom’s 5G mobile base stations. 

TPG Telecom plans to deploy a 5G trial network with 99 percent 3.5GHz outdoor coverage across Singapore Science Parks 1 and 2 by 2020. This will be based on a commercially ready 5G core that follows the 3GPP Release 15 5G standard. When Release 16 is finalised in 2020, it is expected to feature higher speeds and data capacity transmissions, while reducing network latency by up to 10 times.

NetLink also recently announced it will support M1 for its 5G trial at an upcoming new restaurant in Marina Square.

TPG secures 800 MHz of mmWave spectrum in Singapore

Singapore's Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) has allocated 800 MHz of mmWave spectrum to TPG Telecom. TPG plans to use the spectrum in the millimeter wave band to roll out 5G networks on a localised basis. According to the IMDA, wholesale arrangements for the use of 5G networks provided by Singtel and the StarHub - M1 consortium will be available to TPG and mobile virtual network operators, which can in turn offer retail 5G services to end-users.

TPG Telecom, Rakuten Mobile to launch 5G OpenRAN trial in Singapore

TPG Telecom has teamed up with Rakuten Mobile to launch a 5G OpenRAN services trial in Singapore. TPG expects this trial to accelerate the adoption of 5G mobile networks with software-defined technology based on open interfaces and community-developed standards running on open hardware. As part of the trial, Rakuten Mobile plans to share its virtualization services built on an open and multivendor mobile network ecosystem.

NetLink's 9-month profit jumps nearly 10% on higher residential revenue

Singapore-based NetLink Group saw its profit after tax jump 9.6 percent year-on-year to SGD 21.5 million for the three months ended 31 December 2019. Revenue rose 2.9 percent year-on-year to SGD 91.6 million. This increase was mainly due to higher residential revenue, partially offset by lower installation-related revenue, diversion revenue as well as ducts and manhole service revenue, the company said.

NetLink to power M1's, TPG Telecom 5G trial in Singapore

Singapore's NetLink Group has announced it will support IMDA's objectives to expand deployment of 5G infrastructure and grow the 5G ecosystem. As a start, the NetLink Group will support M1 for its 5G trial at an upcoming new restaurant in Marina Square and TPG Telecom for its 5G trial network across Singapore Science Park I and II. The NetLink Group also plans to work with industry partners to offer access to its nationwide fibre network to accelerate the realisation of IMDA's objectives.

Razer, Singtel, IMDA to start 5G cloud gaming trial in Singapore

Gaming accessories company Razer, Singapore operator Singtel and Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA) have teamed up to launch a 5G cloud gaming trial. Supported by the IMDA, this is Singapore's first 5G consumer use-case trial. The technology trial will focus on testing network readiness for 5G cloud gaming. Throughout the trial, Razer will provide the 5G cloud gaming use case and test scenarios, while Singtel will deploy the 5G platform and technical test scenarios.

M1 deploys 5G services at Haidilao restaurant

Singapore operator M1 has partnered with hot pot brand Haidilao to set up a trial 5G network for the restaurant chain's upcoming new store. The new Haidilao Hot Pot restaurant at Marina Square will be equipped with self-developed smart machines such as Intelligent Kitchen Management System (IKMS), a customised automatic soup base machine, and food delivery robots.

M1, Nanyang University launch 5G C-V2X research testbed

Singapore operator M1 has partnered with Nanyang Technological University (NTU Singapore) to integrate 5G technology into cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) research testbeds and trials. M1 will provide the infrastructure for a 5G connected mobility testbed and trial by deploying three 5G base stations for C-V2X communications at the NTU Smart Campus.
