Telefonica's Tuenti MVNO has reached the milestone of 1 million mobile customers worldwide over 10 years after launching as a social network. The company launches its first mobile services in December 2010 after Telefonica paid EUR 72 million to acquire 90 percent of its shares in August of that year, securing the remaining 10 percent in 2013. The company finally abandoned its activity as a social network last month, giving users until 31 August to download the 6 billion photos stored on the platform before it was definitively shut down.
In addition to Spain the company has launched mobile services in five Latin American markets, starting with Mexico in 2014, followed by Argentina, Peru, Ecuador and most recently Guatemala.
