Tunisie Telecom takes Mattel off the block
Tunisie Telecom has taken Mauritanian mobile subsidiary Mattel off the block, Agence Ecofin reports, citing a statement by Habib Dababi, an advisor to Tunisia's ICT minister. Instead, the Tunisian operator will reinvest in its affiliate. Mattel will receive TND 30 million (USD 18 million), some of it coming from its parent's non-distributed profits and the remainder from other financing sources. Mattel is 51 percent owned by TT, 24.5 percent by Telecom BSA and 24.5 percent by Comatel. It competes against Etislat's Mauritel and Sudatel's Chingitel.

Orange has offered to pay Tunisie Telecom EUR 50 million to acquired 51 percent of Tunisie Telecom's Mauritanian subsidiary, Mattel, writes les Afriques. The Tunisian government officially decided at a 29 May meeting chaired by economic affairs minister Nidhal Ouerfelli, that state-owned Tunisie Telecom would continue to back Mauritanian national operator Mattel, by maintaining its 51 percent stake, Agence Ecofin reports. KT drops out of race for Tunisie Telecom stake

South Korean operator KT said it had decided not to bid for a stake in state-owned Tunisie Telecom, Reuters reported. The company did not give a reason why. KT said last year it was in early talks to buy the 35-percent stake in Tunisie Telecom held by a conglomerate owned by Dubai's ruler. Dubai Holding's arm, Emirates International Telecommunications, offered the stake, which it bought for USD 2.25 billion in 2006, to help pare debt. Tunisie Telecom picks Alcatel-Lucent ISAM for upgrade

Alcatel-Lucent and Tunisie Telecom have announced a three-year agreement to upgrade the carrier's voice and data network to provide ultra-broadband access services to residential and enterprise customers.
