Turk Telekom's Aycell has started its services
Turkey's fourth mobile phone operator, Aycell, launches its services yesterday [August 22], backed by its parent company, the state-owned, fixed-line monopoly, Turk Telekom. The company will operate in major cities through an initial 1,000 base station infrastructure, and it expects to have national coverage by mid-2002, with a target of 800,000 subscribers. The new operator will face stern competition from the market leaders, Turkcell and Telsim, as well as from new operator Aria.
