Twitter is in talks for a new round of financing that could raise hundreds of millions of dollars and value the messaging company at USD 7 billion, people familiar with the matter told the Wall Street Journal. It was unclear which investors are participating in the new round. The talks come seven months after Twitter raised USD 200 million in a financing led by venture-capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers that valued the company at USD 3.7 billion. A Twitter spokesman declined to comment. Separately Twitter announced the acquisition of BackType Labs, an analytics firms which helps companies understand the impact of social media sites, including Twitter. BackType will help Twitter develop tools for its publisher partners.
