Twitter tests interest in paid version of Tweetdeck
Twitter is considering offering a paid subscription to "power" users, including brands and news organizations, The Verge reported. Twitter users have been tweeting screenshots of a survey by Twitter and a mock-up of what the premium version of Twitter could look like, with new analytics, alerts about breaking news, and information about what an account’s followers are tweeting about. The advanced features would be contained within Tweetdeck, the company’s app for professionals. The core service would remain free. 

A Twitter spokesperson confirmed the company is conducting the survey to gauge interest in "a new, more enhanced version of Tweetdeck". The company has not yet begun to build the service, a source familiar with the matter told The Verge. The survey is designed to help the team prioritize the product roadmap for the service.

Twitter launches 'lite' mobile service, targets India

Twitter announced the launch of a 'lite' version of its mobile website, designed for users with slow mobile networks, limited storage or expensive internet services. The company said Twitter Lite minimizes data usage, loads quickly on slower connections, is resilient on unreliable mobile networks, and takes up less than 1MB on the device. Twitter is promoting the launch of the Lite site through a deal with Vodafone India to offer a specially curated timeline for the India Premier League cricket season.

Twitter revenue growth slows to 1% as ad sales drop

Twitter reported a further slowdown in revenue growth in the fourth quarter, as the company struggles to attract ad spending. Sales rose just 1 percent year-on-year in Q4 to USD 717 million, as growth in advertising revenue came to a halt. Ad revenue dipped to USD 638 million versus USD 641 million a year ago. Twitter said it expects revenue growth to continue to lag audience growth in 2017 and is working on refining its product to restore sales.

Twitter takes new head of product from newly-bought startup

Twitter has appointed a new head of product, taken from Yes, a newly acquired consumer mobile app startup, Recode reported. Under the purchase transaction, CEO Keith Coleman will join Twitter along with six other Yes employees, all in product and design roles. Coleman will take over the day-to-day leadership of "Bluebird," the core Twitter app and service.

Twitter to close down Vine

Twitter, which just confirmed plans to eliminate 9 percent of its workforce, said it will be closing down its Vine service in the coming months. The company sought to reassure users, saying it will keep the site online so that customers can still access and download their existing Vines. Users will be notified before any changes are made to the app or website.

Twitter confirms 9% cut in workforce, targets profit in 2017

Twitter has confirmed plans to cut 9 percent of its workforce as the company works towards a goal of profitability in 2017. In the third quarter of 2016, Twitter posted a net loss of USD 103 million, on sales up 8 percent year-on-year to USD 616 million. The company said the restructuring, which focuses primarily on reorganizing the company's sales, partnerships, and marketing efforts, is intended "to create greater focus and efficiency to enable Twitter's goal of driving toward GAAP profitability in 2017".
