UK rural broadband provider Voneus secures investment from Macquarie

UK rural broadband services provider Voneus has secured additional investment from Macquarie Capital, the investment arm of Macquarie Group.

The deal includes an initial commitment of GBP 10 million, with the potential to invest up to GBP 30 million in phases. Voneus provides broadband (30-50 Mbps) to rural homes and businesses using fixed wireless access (FWA) technology. It will use the funds to refinance debt and support the roll-out of broadband to more communities, targeting the up to 900,000 rural homes across the UK currently without access to fast broadband.

Launched in 2015, Voneus has to date installed broadband in around 4,000 premises in 25 rural communities across Yorkshire, Lancashire, Devon and the Cotswolds. Supported by Macquarie, Voneus plans to connect its more established communities to full-fibre broadband in the medium term, giving rural homes and businesses access to ultrafast connectivity.
