UPC launches subscription VoD service MyPrime
UPC Netherlands has launched its own subscription video-on-demand service, called MyPrime. The service offers initially around 1,000 films and 1,000 episodes of TV services. It will be included as standard in all new Power and Extra Power triple-play subscriptions from 01 April. Customers subscribed to Power or Extra Power with a Horizon box since September 2013 will also get free access to the service. Other customers can order MyPrime for EUR 6.50 per month for unlimited access to the catalogue. 

UPC already offered a VoD service, and the new 'all-you-can-eat' subscription is aimed at competing with new entrants on the market, such as Netflix and Videoland. The cable operator said it will make MyPrime also available on computers and iOS devices soon for viewing in-home.

UPC NL introduces basic triple-play plan

UPC Netherlands is re-introducing a basic triple-play package. The Alles-in-1 Voordeelpakket offers broadband at 25/5 Mbps with a Wi-Fi router, a fixed line, 30 TV channels in analogue and digital and the three public channels in HD. No interactive TV services are included. The plan costs EUR 41 per month, compared to EUR 45 for its next highest offer, Alles-in-Een Basis, which comes with faster broadband, more channels and interactive services. UPC Cablecom commissions sitcom for new MyPrime service

UPC Cablecom said it is launching the MyPrime video library in Switzerland at CHF 9.95 per month for unlimited use, or free to customers who already have a UPC Cablecom bundle. It has commissioned its own sitcom production, 'Fassler-Kunz', about a married couple facing retirement. The twelve-episode comedy is written by Katja Fruh together with Patrick Frey, who will play the male protagonist, and his co-star is Esther Gemsch. UPC Netherlands updates Horizon box

UPC Netherlands is rolling out another firmware update for its Gorizon set-top box. In addition to fixing various bugs, the DLNA support was improved. It also updated the user interface to make it quicker and easier to use. In the On Demand selection, users can now view a list, instead of the often slow image mosaic. When the box is turned on, it returns automatically to the channel last viewed. UPC is rolling out the update by province in the period 18 August to 12 September.

Six percent of Dutch consumers interested in premium channel subscription

Digital TV offers consumers the option to subscribe to many more channels. Sports fans can sign up for Fox Sports Eredivisie, Fox Sports International or Sport1, while those who like films and series can choose HBO or Film1. According to research from the Telecompaper Consumer Panel, the percentage of Dutch households subscribed to extra channel packages has declined over the past year. The survey also found that men are more interested than women in subscribing to additional channels.

UPC passes KPN in Netflix speed rankings

Cable operator UPC continues to climb the list of ISPs in Netflix's speed rankings for the Netherlands. After moving from eighth to fifth the previous month, the company rose to fourth in March, passing KPN. UPC had an average speed of 3.57 Mbps, up from 3.26 in February. In total, ISPs offered an average speed of 3.48 Mbps to deliver Netflix in the Netherlands. Caiway remained at the top of the list, with an average speed of 3.71 Mbps. Videoland Unlimited to launch standalone service in April

RTL Netherlands plans to launch a new online video service under the Videoland brand in April, the website iPhoneclub reports. Dutch VoD revenues grow 23% in 2013

The Dutch entertainment saw a 15 percent drop in revenue in the last quarter of 2013, with volumes down almost 19 percent, according to GfK. The number of Dutch households using video-on-demand services rose to 2.7 million at the end of November according to the industry group Stichting Video On Demand.
