Verizon introduces new tiered pricing for unlimited plan

Verizon is changing pricing for its unlimited plan, introducing a cheaper option with lower quality streaming and a more expensive version with all the previous benefits.

Verizon first introduced an unlimited offer in February, in order to stem the customer losses to rival T-Mobile's unlimited data plan. The plan initially cost USD 80 per month for the first line, but is now offered in two versions at USD 75 or USD 85. Rivals AT&T and T-Mobile already have a similar tiered offering.

The basic 'gounlimited' plan limits video streaming to a resolution of 480p, while the more expensive 'beyondunlimited' plan includes 720p streaming. Basic subscribers may also be subject to throttling in congested network areas, while this will not happen on the pricier plan until the customer has exceeded 22 GB in a month. In addition, roaming in Canada and Mexico is no longer included in the basic plan, and data speeds over the mobile hotspot are reduced to 600 Kbps.

Verizon also offers a 'businessunlimited' plan, which starts at USD 45 and includes some of the conditions of each of the above plans, and a prepaid unlimited package, which costs USD 80 and also includes roaming.
