Verizon, Nokia, Qualcomm complete call with 5G NR system
Verizon, Nokia and Qualcomm have completed what they say is the first call to be made using a 3GPP-compliant 5G New Radio (NR) system under licensed spectrum. The test was made on Verizon’s millimetre wave spectrum, using Nokia 5G systems on a 5G NR prototype device provided by Qualcomm Technologies. 

Verizon said the test was an important milestone on the road to preparing the company’s network for commercial 5G mobile services. It was conducted this month at Nokia’s facility in Murray Hill in New Jersey, and follows previous interoperability testing between Nokia and Qualcomm Technologies. The 5G NR standard was approved by the 3GPP in December 2017. 

The test was completed over Nokia’s CloudRAN system, made up of the Nokia AirScale baseband and radio, AirFrame server, and AirScale Cloud RAN running 5G NR 3GPP-compliant software.  Qualcomm’ 5G NR millimeter wave prototype device includes an optimized millimeter wave RF front-end design in a smartphone form factor.

Nokia and T-Mobile US provided true mobile 5G during the nation's first bi-directional over-the-air 5G data session on a 3GPP-compliant 5G New Radio (NR) system in T-Mobile's Bellevue lab. The test was successfully conducted with a user equipment simulator and Nokia's 3GPP-compliant high-capacity 5G solution in the 28 GHz band.

Qualcomm shows first 5G NR platform for small cells

Qualcomm has announced what its says is the first 5G NR platform for small cells and remote radio head deployments. Building on its FSM Platform for 3G and 4G small cells, the new product will support 5G NR in both mmWave and sub-6 GHz spectrum, so OEMs can reuse software and hardware designs across both the low and high frequency bands.

Nokia and SFR complete 5G New Radio call using 3.5 GHz spectrum

Nokia and SFR have completed what they say is the first call to be made in France using the 5G New Radio (5G NR) standard, as part of an over-the-air test conducted at Nokia's Paris-Saclay campus. The call was made on 3GPP-compliant test devices over 3.5 GHz spectrum. Using a similar set-up to the recent trial conducted by Nokia with Verizon, the call was completed on Nokia's 5G-ready AirScale Cloud RAN, running on its AirFrame data center solution.

Qualcomm, Huawei complete 3GPP-based 5G interoperability testing

Qualcomm Technologies, a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated, and Huawei successfully completed 5G NR Interoperability and Development Testing (IODT) based on the 3GPP Release 15 global standard.
