Indian consumer electronics group Videocon is planning to make a bid for Motorola's handset business. Videocon chairman Venugopal Dhoot told news wires that the group is in the early stages of considering a bid and could not comment on any price for the activities. Motorola recently announced that it plans to spin off its loss-making mobile phone business from the rest of its activities, into a separately listed company. A spokesman for Motorola declined to comment on the possible bid from Videocon. The electronics group was recently awarded a telecom services licence in India and plans to invest some INR 60 billion in rolling out mobile services.
