Vimpelcom appoints Schuster as group chief operating officer
Vimpelcom has appointed Rene Schuster as its new group chief operating officer, with effect from 01 July. Schuster succeeds Jan Edvard Thygesen and will assume direct responsibility for the operational and financial performance of the group's business units. He was previously CEO of Telefonica Deutschland and has held a number of senior positions with companies such as Adecco, Vodafone, Hewlett Packard, Compaq, KPMG, IBM and General Electric.

Vimpelcom issues EUR 4 bln bonds to refinance Wind debt

Vimpelcom has issued EUR 4.07 billion of 6-year senior high yield bonds with a view to refinancing debt at its subsidiaries Wind Telecomunicazioni (Wind) and Wind Acquisition Finance (WAF). According to Vimpelcom, the move will result in approximately EUR 300 million of total savings in annual interest costs. 3 Italia and Wind resume mobile merger talks - report

Hutchison Whampoa and VimpelCom have resumed high-level talks about a possible merger of their respective Italian mobile phone units, 3 Italia and Wind Telecomunicazioni, according to unnamed sources cited by Reuters. The chances of a merger going ahead have increased following the EC's approval of Hutchison Whampoa's acquisition of O2 Ireland, said the sources. Vimpelcom seeks new buyer for Telecel Globe assets - report

Vimpelcom is apparently seeking to sell its Telecel Globe assets, despite agreeing to sell the company to Niel telecom for around EUR 75 million in 2013, TMT Finance reported. Niel Telecom had reportedly agreed to acquire Telecel Globe, which encompasses the Leo unit in Burundi and the Telecel Centrafrique unit in Central African Republic (CAR), subject only to closing conditions. However, TMT Finance cited its sources as saying that Niel had struggled to get sufficient financing for the deal.

Beeline appoints new IT director

Russian operator Vimpelcom, working under the Beeline brand, has appointed Vladimir Savkin IT director. Savkin will be responsible for the implementation of the corporate IT strategy focused on customer needs. Savkin works as acting IT director at the company since October 2013 and earlier was head of the Enterprise Resources Planning Department at Beeline.
