Virgin Mobile launches Friendi Mobile MVNO in Malaysia
Virgin Mobile Middle East & Africa (VMMEA) has launched operations Malaysia with its regional mobile partner, Friendi. Virgin's Malaysian operation joins its five Friendi-branded MVNOs in Oman, Jordan, South Africa and Saudi Arabia. Friendi starts up with a distribution network of over 1,500 dealers throughout Malaysia, with plans to expand further over time. Friendi will focus on price transparency and improvements to customer service at it serves Malaysia's multi-cultural population. Friendi Mobile Malaysia is a joint venture between VMMEA and Malaysian partner Kumpulan Perangsang Selangor (KPS), Malaysia's sovereign investment fund. VMMEA currently has a customer base of over 1 million, and aims to double the number of countries where it operates in the next few years.

Friendi Mobile reduces international call rates

Omani operator Friendi Mobile has reduced its international call rates to 38 countries starting from 01 June. It provides Friendi customers with the lowest international call rates ever in the sultanate to Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, Canada, China, Hong Kong, the USA, Singapore and Vietnam. Saudi Arabia sets May deadline for MVNO licence bids

Saudi Arabia's Communications and Information Technology Commission (CITC) has a set 04 May deadline for companies to submit applications for three MVNO licences, Reuters reported. This will make it the second of the six Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) members after Oman to permit MVNOs. The winners of the licences will be announced twelve weeks after the bid deadline. Friendi plans IPO within two years

UAE MVNO Friendi hopes to launch an initial public offering (IPO) in the next two years, The National reported. Earlier this year, Friendi partnered with the UK's Virgin Media Group to expand its reach in the region.
