Virgin Mobile to launch mobile services in Chile in 2012
Virgin Mobile will launch an MVNO in Chile in the first quarter of 2012. Chilean telecommunications regulator Subtel has already authorized the service launch, Emol reports, citing Virgin CEO Richard Branson. Virgin will provide its MVNO services in Chile using the Movistar mobile network. Virgin Mobile Chile will mainly target the young customer segment.

Virgin Mobile Latin America has received regulatory approval from Mexico's Ministry of Communications and Transportation to launch mobile services in Mexico. The announcement was made by Mony de Swaan, head of Mexico's telecom regulator Cofetel, on his Twitter account. Nextel launches mobile broadband pilot in Chile

Nextel has launched mobile broadband services in Chile. The service is currently undergoing a test phase, and is available for Nextel existing customers across the country, local newspaper CanalCL reports. Virgin Mobile secures MVNO licence in Chile

Chile's telecommunications regulator, Subtel, has formalized Virgin Mobile's MVNO licence, which will allow it to launch services nationally, TeleSemana reports. The operator had already announced that it would begin its Latin American expansion in Chile, and has not ruled out opening its regional headquarters there. Chilean fixed line operator GTD has launched mobile virtual network operations on the local market. The MVNO will use the GTD Movil brand name. GTD Movil leverages the Movistar network to provide its services across Chile, Emol reports, citing Robert Masse, GTD Movil CEO. The GTD mobile service is currently in a test phase, and will be commercially available starting with July. GTD Movil will offer mobile voice, SMS, MMS, data and internet services in Chile.
