Virgin Mobile UK adds data rollover, unlimited WhatsApp

Virgin Mobile UK has unveiled a new range of 4G, Sim-only plans that come with data rollover and unlimited use of WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger. The no-contract plans, the MVNO's first with 4G speeds, start at GBP 6 a month for 300 minutes and 300 MB and go up to 5,000 minutes and 20 GB for GBP 25 a month. All six plans come with unlimited SMS. 

In addition to zero-rated WhatsApp and Messenger, the plans give customers unlimited calls to Virgin numbers and the company's network of hotspots. Any unused mobile data can be rolled over to use the following month (one-month limit). Customers can also add a handset for a monthly fee to the plans. Virgin Mobile uses the EE network.

UK MVNO Economy Mobile targets 200k clients in 1st yr

Economy Mobile, a UK MVNO launched in March 2017, said it aims to recruit over 200,000 clients in its first year of activity, Mobile News reported. The new operator is part of independent utility Economy Energy and is offering a free SIM with GBP 5 credit per month to its 250,000 existing gas and electricity customers.

Virgin Media launches 4G ad campaign

Virgin Media has launched a new advertising campaign, including its first TV ads in eight years. The new campaign coincides with the tenth anniversary since Virgin Group founder Richard Branson launched the company Virgin Media in February 2007 to create the UK's first quad-play provider. The multi-million pound campaign tagged '4G with added oomph' includes digital, social, press and out of home advertising. The TV advert aired on 11 February during ITV's 'Ninja Warriors'.

Tesco Mobile CEO to move to Virgin Mobile - report

Virgin Mobile UK is close to hiring the head of Tesco Mobile, Anthony Vollmer, three sources familiar with the matter told the Financial Times. Vollmer has been head of Tesco Mobile since 2013 and prior to that led the ISP Plusnet. Vollmer would replace Peter Kelley, who became director of the mobile unit early this year and also leads Virgin Media Business.

Virgin adds 80k RGUs in Q3; sharpest UK growth since 2009

Virgin Media recruited 80,000 RGUs on an organic basis in the third quarter, up 7 percent from a year earlier, thanks to the sharpest UK growth since 2009, as losses of video customers slowed and as triple-play bundles drew new clients. Organic customer additions in the UK and Ireland totalled 45,000, up 7.1 percent, hitting a record 49,000 in the UK driven by the Project Lightning network build-out and summer promotions.

Virgin Media Ireland is now offering free and unlimited Wi-Fi access to all Virgin Mobile customers. This gives them access to over 900 Bitbuzz Wi-Fi hotspots across Ireland and the UK. Customers need a Wi-Fi enabled phone and need to register onto a Bitbuzz Wi-Fi hotspot in a one-off registration.
