Viva Bahrain starts operations
Bahrain's newest mobile operator Viva has officially launched its services in the country. The launch comes more than a year after the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority awarded Bahrain's third mobile licence to the Saudi Telecommunications Company (STC), which named the new operation Viva. STC Group chairman Mohammed bin Suleiman Al Jasser said the Viva launch was a reflection of the partnership between the two countries and their long-standing relations. Group CEO Saud Al Duweish said STC has invested USD 200 million in Bahrain and is looking at investing several hundred million more in the next few years. Viva Bahrain CEO Abdulrahman Al Omar said the company would leave a mark on everyone in Bahrain with the services it would provide. Tens of thousands of people in Bahrain had been queuing to book their Viva mobile numbers and take advantage of a high-speed internet offer over the last few weeks, he said.
