Vocus to launch Australia-Singapore Cable on 14 September

Vocus Communications’ AUD 170 million Australia-Singapore Cable has been connected to the company’s terrestrial network, providing Australia with an increase in capacity into the Asian region. The Vocus team is finalising its testing phase for the cable system in anticipation of it being ready for service on 14 September, the company announced.

Alcatel Submarine Networks finished laying the 4600-km cable in July after a 20-month installation project. The cable has also been incorporated into the Equinix International Interconnection ecosystem spanning 275 cloud providers and thousands of data centres globally. 

Vocus Communications is now working with Alcatel on the other side of the country to construct the recently-announced Coral Sea Cable System, on behalf of the Australian government.

Vocus completes Coral Sea cable system for Australian government

Vocus, a fibre and network products provider in Australia and New Zealand, said it celebrated its successful completion of the Coral Sea Cable System for the Australian Government. After final testing, the 4,700 km Coral Sea Cable connecting Sydney, Honiara and Port Moresby, and the 730 km Solomon Islands Domestic Network, were accepted by the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade, a month earlier than planned.

Vocus has announced it has installed Coral Sea Cable System landing sites at both Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands. Vocus is building the 4,700km Coral Sea Cable System for the Australian Government. According to Vocus, the Coral Sea Cable System and the Solomon Islands Domestic Network are on track to be ready for service by December this year.

Vocus expands Australia Singapore Cable capacity by 50%

Australian operator Vocus has announced that its Australia Singapore Cable (ASC) system is operating with an a total capacity of 60 Tbps, which is 50 percent more than when it launched 10 months ago. The system comprises 4 fibre pairs, that provide different connection points between Perth and Singapore, as well as into Christmas Island and Indonesia.

Vocus has announced that the Australia Singapore Cable is now fully operational. "The Vocus ASC is now fully operational and has been very successfully supported by industry. We have sold over 2.5Tbps of capacity, including to a global OTT player, and have an excellent pipeline", Vocus said.

Vocus drops dividend to focus on capex as FY profit falls

Vocus reported a small rise in results for its fiscal year to June, in line with its outlook. Revenues rose 2 percent on a pro forma basis, adjusted for currency effects, to AUD 1.906 billion, and underlying EBITDA increased 2 percent to AUD 368 million. The company said it will not pay a dividend, as it reserves cash for capex and the new Australia Singapore Cable coming into service in mid-September.

Vocus completes construction of Australia Singapore Cable

The cable-laying phase of the Vocus-owned Australia Singapore Cable (ASC) system is complete, with the final splice having been completed south-east of Singapore. With this phase completed on time and without any delays, the project team swings into full configuration mode with electrical and technology systems being installed, configured and tested as part of a make-ready phase. The ready for service date will be made known once testing gets completed, Vocus said.

Equinix has announced the Vocus-owned Australia Singapore Cable (ASC) will be accessible in its International Business ExchangeTM (IBX) data centers in Singapore and across six metros in Australia, including the Cable Landing Station (CLS) in Perth and points of presence (PoP) in Sydney and Melbourne already announced. The ASC is a 40Tbps subsea cable system between Asia and Australia, which will provide businesses with the capacity to handle growth in data consumption.
