Vodafone Germany offers free on-net calls with new app
Vodafone Germany has launched a new app for users of the CallYa Smartphone Fun tariff. The app allows users to make free calls to other Vodafone customers, under specific conditions. The 'HeyHo' is available with immediate effect for Android smartphone users, and will be extended shortly to support iOS devices. The free calls apply to users aged under 26 years who have topped up their prepaid card with at least EUR 15 in the last four weeks. However, Vodafone is waiving this top-up requirement for the first 40,000 customers to download and install the app on their smartphones.

Vodafone Germany revenues up 4.2% in Q1

Vodafone Germany reported an organic increase in service revenue of 4.2 percent in the fiscal first quarter to 30 June, to EUR 2.26 billion. The growth was driven by mobile data service revenues, which increased by 19.6 percent to EUR 492 million, messaging services (+7.6%) and services for business customers (+7.8%). Vodafone Germany recommends translation app

Vodafone Germany has recommended an new app for Android phones and the iPhone. The application, called Jourist Weltuebersetzer, is a travel tool that can translate from and into 29 languages. It includes 2,200 words in every language. The app does not only show the translated word or phrase on the screen, it also pronounces the word, so the user can learn the right pronunciation. The product was developed by Jourist Verlag and can be downloaded for EUR 7.99.

Vodafone fixes network malfunction in northwest Germany

Vodafone Germany has fixed a malfunction that occurred on its network in the northwest of Germany on 17 June. Customers of the company's mobile network in the areas of Oldenburg Bremen and Hamburg suffered from problems with their GSM and UMTS services. The malfunctions were said to be due to damage caused to the company's fibre-optic cable by the railway line between Hamburg and Bremen. The problem was solved in the night of the same day.

Vodafone Germany sees problems with LTE service

Vodafone Germany's LTE service is suffering disruptions, Focus magazine reported. The LTE connection breaks down every time the connected phone rings. A Vodafone spokesman confirmed the problem, and said that the data connection has to be re-established after every phone call. Telekom Deutschland CEO Niek Jan van Damme said that he knows of the problem, and this is partly why the company has not launched its LTE voice service yet.

Vodafone Germany has started selling a portable mobile hotspot product with LTE support, teltarif.de. The Norza WNC D-55 portable router converts LTE-based mobile broadband into a WLAN signal so that up to five smartphones, tablets or laptops can use a single wireless internet connection. Vodafone Germany sells 800,000 smartphones in Q4

Vodafone Germany sold almost 800,000 smartphones in the fourth quarter of FY 2011/2012 from January-March, with 7.5 million of its customers now using smartphones. This is a penetration rate of 23.1 percent of its total customer base, compared to 14.6 percent a year earlier. The majority (84.2%) of contract handsets sold in Q4 were smartphones. Samsung and Apple models are the most popular smartphones for Vodafone Germany customers, with each brand accounting for around 30 percent of sales in Q4.

Vodafone Germany launches new smartphones

Vodafone Germany has started marketing the Samsung Galaxy S3 smartphone in all its shops, with effect from 29 May. It is offering the device for EUR 669.90, or from EUR 9.90 with a contract. The company will also launch two new LTE smartphones - the HTC One XL and LG Optimus TrueHD LTE - from 04 June. The HTC One XL will be offered for EUR 699.90 without a contract, or from EUR 149.99 with a 24-month contract. Huawei announced the exclusive launch with Vodafone Germany of the Huawei Ascend G300 smartphone.
