Vodafone Idea names Takkar as CEO after Sharma resigns

Vodafone Idea announced its board approved the appointment of non-executive director Ravinder Takkar as the managing director and CEO of the company for the next three years, effective from 19 August. He replaces Balesh Sharma who stepped down as the CEO of the company with immediate effect due to personal reasons. 

Takkar has served on the board since 2017 and also sits on the board of Indus Towers. He acts as Vodafone Group's overall representative in India. 

He is a long-time Vodafone executive, working previously as CEO of Vodafone Romania for three years and as CEO of Vodafone Partner Markets in London. He started out in the Indian market in 2006 when Vodafone entered the country and held roles in strategy, business development and CEO of the enterprise business for Vodafone India. He first joined Vodafone group in 1994. 

Balesh will be taking up a new role with Vodafone Group, which will be announced in due course, the company said. He has led the company since the merger of Vodafone India and Idea Cellular after previously working as Vodafone India COO. He has overseen the integration of Vodafone Idea, which the company said was completed successfully in a reduced time-frame of two rather than four years.

Indian mobile operator Vodafone Idea has selected Amdocs to consolidate the merged entity's postpaid operations for retail and enterprise customers across mobile and fixed-line services. As part of the multi-year agreement, Idea postpaid customers will be migrated to Amdocs Service Monetization Software Suite, which has been supporting Vodafone postpaid customers under the managed services model for several years. Vodafone Idea currently serves more than 320 million customers across India.

Vodafone Idea quarterly revenues down 4.3%, integration hits 70% of targeted synergies

Vodafone Idea saw its revenue decline by 4.3 percent sequentially to INR 112.7 billion for the three months ended 30 June 2018, negatively impacted by churn of customers who recharged with 'service validity vouchers' in the quarter ended 31 March, as well as ARPU down-trading. Vodafone India completes merger with Idea Cellular

Vodafone Group has announced the completion of the merger between Vodafone India and Idea Cellular, first announced in March 2017, after receiving all regulatory approvals.
