Vittorio Colao, chief executive officer of Vodafone Italia has revealed that his company aims at launching commercial UMTS services next year. By offering only a reduced UMTS service at the beginning of the year, Vodafone will heat up for the full launch expected mid-2004. In an interview with the daily La Repubblica, Colao said the problem of obtaining UMTS handsets remains, and there will not be many terminal available in early 2004, but the offer should gradually increase.
