Vodafone is partnering with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to offer Multi-access Edge Compute (MEC) services, combined with its 5G network and AWS Wavelength, to business customers in the UK. Vodafone and AWS first announced their partnership in late-2020.
The launch in the UK follows trials with companies in a range of areas such as autonomous transport, sports technology, biometric security, factory automation and remote VR. Customer trials of MEC services, delivered using AWS Wavelength, are continuing in Germany, with general availability following later in 2021.
Working with AWS, Vodafone is initially offering low-latency MEC services to customers in London and surrounding area, and other towns and cities including Cardiff, Oxford, Bristol and Cambridge. This will be extended in 2022 to serve customers in northern regions of England and Scotland.
