Vodafone, Liberty Global offer concessions on Dutch deal
Vodafone and Liberty Global have submitted commitments to the European Commission already on their proposed joint venture in the Netherlands. According to the EC Competition website, the undertakings were submitted on 12 July. Further details on the commitments were not disclosed. 

Vodafone and Liberty Global first applied for EU clearance of the deal in mid-June. In early July, the Dutch competition and telecom regulator ACM made a request to the EC to evaluate the deal itself. The EC must still respond to the latter request. The provisional deadline for the EC deadline to decide on the case is 03 August, but this is likely to be extended.

Vodafone Netherlands reported service revenue for its fiscal first quarter to June down 2.2 percent year-on-year to EUR 425.9 million, hurt by mobile price competition and the cut to EU roaming prices. Dutch consumers union worried about Ziggo-Vodafone merger

The Dutch consumers union has expressed concerns about the proposed joint venture between Ziggo and Vodafone Netherlands to the European Commission. The Consumentenbond fears the deal will result in less competition on the Dutch market in the longer term. As a result of the proposed combination of Ziggo's cable business with Vodafone's mobile operators, a near duopoly will result on the Dutch fixed and mobile markets, of incumbent KPN and Ziggo-Vodafone. Dutch regulator asks for right to investigate Vodafone-Ziggo

Dutch regulator ACM has formally asked the European Commission to start an investigation into Vodafone and Ziggo. The two companies want to merge their Dutch businesses into a joint venture. ACM sent the referral request on 6 July to the EC, which has until early August to respond. The request is not public.
