Vodafone sues Telecom Italia for abuse of dominant position
Vodafone Group is suing Telecom Italia for abuse of its dominant position in Italy, seeking damages of over EUR 1 billion, reports Reuters. A Vodafone spokesperson said the civil action in a Milan court stated that Telecom Italia committed a series of abuses in the period 2008-2013, "with the intention and effect of impeding growth in competition in the Italian fixed-line market". As a consequence, Telecom Italia caused a loss of customers to Vodafone Italia, restricted the operator's ability to grow its fixed-line business, and forced it to pay artificially high costs to compete in the market.

Italian regulator backs Telecom Italia network spin-off plan

The president of Italy's telecommunications regulator Agcom said Telecom Italia's plan to spin off its domestic fixed-line network was a "bold and innovative" move. Italian communications revenues drop by EUR 1.6 bln in 2012

Italian telecommunications, media and postal services generated revenues of EUR 61.45 billion in 2012, down from EUR 65.83 billion in 2011. Italian fixed line market loses 450,000 connections in Q1

Fixed line network connections dropped by 450,000 in Italy in the first quarter of 2013 on an annual basis, according to the quarterly Observatory of Italy's Communications Authority (AgCom). Telecom Italia's market share fell by 1.9 percentage points over the twelve-month period to 64 percent.
