Vodafone UK unveils EVO smartphone plan as part of new 'Reinvent' strategy

Vodafone UK has announced the launch of its new EVO smartphone plan, combining device financing, trade-in and early upgrades. It has also unveiled plans to connect one million people living in digital poverty.

The announcements were made by Vodafone UK CEO Ahmed Essam at the unveiling of the operator's new 'Vodafone Reinvent' strategy. This covers a series of plans and commitments to give of all its operations a purpose. It also includes a commitment to eliminate all carbon emissions in the UK by 2027.

The new flexible EVO mobile offering makes it easier for customers to afford the latest smartphones, Vodafone said. It is offered with a combination of contract lengths up to 36 months, and an upgrade guarantee at any time from 12 months. EVO also includes the Unlimited Data Booster, battery refresh for up to three years, and 2-year total care warranty.

The launch of EVO marks a significant shift in Vodafone's smartphone sales strategy, with all smartphones to be sold this way. EVO makes up the Vodafone Together offering with the Pro Broadband service launched earlier in 2021. All customers having an EVO plan and a Pro plan will benefit from a discount of up to GBP 3 per month.

For every new and existing Vodafone Together customer, Vodafone will donate a SIM card to people in need. The SIMs will be loaded with 20GB data and free calls/texts each month for up to 12 months. They will be distributed through the Trussell Trust's food bank network across the UK to make sure the connectivity is targeted at those most in need. This pledge to connect one million vulnerable people is part of Vodafone's long-term commitment to tackling digital exclusion. The new initiative to connect one million people living in digital poverty by end-2022 is supported by England rugby star Maro Itoje.
