Vodafone Zambia says CEO retires, to announce new ownership

Vodafone Zambia’s board has announced the retirement of CEO Lars Hendrik Stork. In a brief statement to staff, chairperson Gilbert Temba said the new CEO will be announced soon alongside other structural changes, including a new ownership of Vodafone Zambia.

Vodafone Zambia is one of Zambia’s fastest growing ISPs and was recently granted authority by the Regulator ZICTA to start providing VoLTE services in Zambia.

Sale of Vodafone Zambia to be completed in August

The sale of Vodafone Zambia to its new owners is expected to be completed by August, company spokesperson Mutale Kapaso said, according to Lusaka Times. Kapaso said new shareholders will inject capital funding that will enable Vodafone Zambia to expand its operations. She said that the delay in capital injection meant some of the company's network coverage areas have experienced outages.

ZICTA fines Airtel, MTN and Zamtel for poor services

Zambian industry regulator ZICTA has fined MTN, Airtel and Zamtel a combined ZMK 12.6 million for providing poor service. The watchdog said the three mobile network operators have been fined for various cases ranging from dropped calls, failed texts and poor internet services. MTN must pay ZMK 3.6 million in fines, Airtel ZMK 4.2 million and Zamtel ZMK 4.8 million.

Vodafone Zambia to launch VoLTE within 3 months

Vodafone Zambia is set to launch 4G voice services (Voice over LTE or VoLTE) commercially within the next three months under a newly acquired licence from the Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority (ZICTA). CEO Lars Stork said it has built in support for VoLTE to its 4G network and tests have shown tremendous results. Vodafone launched its operations in Zambia on 09 June 2016, initially with TD-LTE data services.

Vodafone Zambia has appointed Amon Jere as its new Chief Sales and Distribution Officer with effect from 01 February as part of the operator's drive to expand its distribution footprint and grow market share. Jere comes from MTN Zambia, where he was Chief Sales & Distribution Officer. He has over fifteen years of experience in commercial, sales and distribution in the telecommunications industry across Southern, Eastern and Western Africa regions.
