Wi-Fi 6 certification programme to launch in Q3
The Wi-Fi Alliance announced at CES 2019 that the certification programme for the Wi-Fi 6 standard first unveiled last October will launch in the third quarter of 2019. The new programme is designed to ensure that Wi-Fi devices using the latest IEEE 802.11ax technology comply with industry-agreed interoperability and security standards as well as providing capacity, coverage and performance required by users to experience next generation Wi-Fi use cases, said the Alliance.

Advanced capabilities supported by Wi-Fi 6 include uplink and downlink orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA), multi-user multiple input multiple output (MU-MIMO), transmit beamforming, 1024 quadrature amplitude modulation mode (1024-QAM) and target wake time (TWT) to significantly improve battery life in Wi-Fi devices.

The Alliance added that numerous Wi-Fi 6 products, such as high-performance access points and laptops are being showcased at CES 2019, demonstrating the technology’s ability to support high-definition streaming, virtual reality, interactive HD and 4K video, asset tracking and sensors, as well as more efficient uploading and downloading capabilities.
