Italy's third-largest phone operator Wind, in which Enel holds a 74% stake and France Telecom owns a minority stake, is going to launch its EUR 1.2 billion capital increase in six to nine months, according to a report by a local wire citing Wind's chief executive Tommasso Pompei on October 3, 2002. He announced this would also be Wind's last capital increase, because after that the company will be financial independent and is in no need anymore for further resources from its shareholders. There is no hope anymore for the sale of Wind because of a lack of potential buyers. An IPO has been delayed because of poor market conditions.
