Worldmax unveils Aerea wireless broadband service

Worldmax has unveiled its wireless broadband service Aerea at the WiMAX Forum congress in Amsterdam. Based on WiMAX 802.16e technology and built by Alcatel-Lucent, the Worldmax network currently covers the entire area within the Amsterdam ring road. The company has made an early "light version" of the broadband service available to reply to customer demand. Worldmax expects to complete roll-out of the network after the summer, launching then a full service for consumer and business customers. The company offers pre- and postpaid subscriptions, pledging to connect customers within two days of sign-up. Users require a PC card to access the service, with a USB dongle available later. Intel, which is an investor in Worldmax, also expects to have WiMAX notebook products on the market by the end of this year.
