Worldwide DSL CPE revenue totaled $1.7 billion, cable CPE totaled $1 billion, and enterprise IADs and access routers totaled $4.5 billion in CY02, according to Infonetics Research’s Broadband Hardware and Access Routers quarterly worldwide market share and forecast service. Worldwide ADSL modem unit shipments grew 37%, and revenue grew 25% from 3Q02 to 4Q02. DSL subscriber growth in Europe drove the ADSL modem market in 4Q02.
“In North America, 2002 was catch-up year for DSL CPE, as unit shipments almost equaled DSLAM port shipments, which shipped heavily in previous years compared to DSL CPE,” said Infonetics Research’s Jon Cordova, lead analyst of the report. “In North America, DSL providers have shifted their focus on expanding their DSL footprint to provisioning DSL subscribers. In EMEA, Asia/Pacific, and CALA, expanding coverage remains a priority for DSL providers.”
