Worldwide smartphone shipment growth slows to 1.6% in 2016

Worldwide smartphone shipments are expected to reach 1.46 billion units in 2016, with growth slowing to 1.6 percent year-on-year from 10.4 percent in 2015, according to the latest reported from IDC, which said the slowdown will come from the decline expected in developed regions. For 2020, shipments are seen hitting 1.758 billion. Emerging markets will continue with positive growth. Developed markets as a whole, including the US, Canada, Japan, and Western Europe, are expected to see a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of minus 0.2 percent over the 2015-2020 forecast period.
