Xiaomi unveils first tablet
Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi has unveiled its first tablet. The Xiaomi Mi Pad features a 7.9-inch screen with Wi-Fi connectivity and a Nvidia quad-core Tegra K1 processor, Cnet reports. Its design resembles the iPad mini, but with a glossy plastic casing. The tablet comes with 2GB of RAM and 16GB or 64GB of internal storage, plus a microSD card slot. It runs a new version of Xiaomi's MI user interface, a customised version of Android 4.4. The Mi Pad also features an 8 megapixel rear camera and 5 megapixel front camera, as well as a 6,700 mAh battery. Xiaomi is releasing it initially in beta in China in June, so a first group of users can test out the device. The tablet is priced at CNY 1,499 for the 16 GB version and CNY 1,699 for the 64 GB version.

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi sold out 50,000 MiPad tablets in less than four minutes during an online sale on 2 July, Want China Times. Xiaomi smartphone shipments quadruple in H1

Xiaomi announced that it shipped four times as many smartphones in the first half of this year than the year-earlier period. The Chinese company shipped 26 million smartphones, versus 7.03 million in the first six months of 2013. Xiaomi shipped 18.7 million units in all of 2013. Sales in the first half of this year more than doubled to CNY 33 billion from CNY 13.3 billion a year ago, Xiaomi said. Xiaomi to launch tablet open beta testing on 6 June

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi plans to kick off open beta testing of its new tablet product on 6 June, Marbridge Daily reports. The company said that it will select Xiaomi heavy users to participate in the test. Those selected must submit CNY 1 along with their application. Xiaomi plans to release 500 tablets for testing. To qualify for the test, users must be a verified Xiaomi VIP user,  register on the Xiaomi community forum before 6 June and have more than 300 Xiaomi community credits.

Touch panel makers see new orders from Xiaomi - report

Touch panel makers are seeing increased orders from Chinese smartphone manufacturer Xiaomi as the firm aims to ship 80 million handsets this year, Digitimes reports citing industry sources. Xiaomi had an initial shipment goal of 40 million units for 2014 but later increased the goal to 60 million. The sources said Xiaomi is now putting in increased orders to supply chains, with the aim of shipping 80 million handsets in 2014. According to the report, Xiaomi expects to ship 160 million handsets in 2015.

Xiaomi to start orders for new TV 03 June

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi will start accepting pre-orders for its second-generation smart television Mi TV on 3 June, Want China Times reports. The new television is priced at CNY 3,999 and is compatible with Apple smartphones and tablets. It runs on Morningstar's quad-core television chip MSD64918 and Broadcom's 5G WiFi.

Xiaomi to launch first tablet - report

Chinese smartphone maker Xiaomi will soon release its first tablet, sources with knowledge of the matter told Reuters. Xiaomi announced it would hold a launch event in Beijing on 15 May, but declined to give details or comment further.
