Middle East mobile operator Zain Group recorded revenues of USD 1.1 billion for the third quarter, effectively flat compared to the same period in 2012. EBITDA fell to USD 471 million from USD 492 million, and net income for the quarter reached USD 186 million, a 12 percent decrease from a year earlier. Excluding negative currency effects, predominantly in Sudan, revenue growth would have been 3 percent and EBITDA would have been stable, the operator said. The group added 3 million new customers over the last 12 months to serve 44.3 million as of 30 September, reflecting a 7 percent growth rate. Zain said it's the market leader in six of its eight operations by customer numbers.
