Ziggo, UPC form networks joint venture

Dutch cable operators Ziggo and UPC have set up a joint venture company for deploying and running networks, according to information from the Chamber of Commerce, first reported by Webwereld. Ziggo 4 BV was created on 29 December and focuses on both deployment of telecom and broadcast networks and offering mobile and fixed services. Shareholders are Zesko 2 and Zesko 3, companies controlled by Ziggo, and the new company has four directors, of which two from UPC. These are CFO Ritchy Drost and VP Corporate Development Mick Fernhout from UPC, and Bert Groenewegen and Mirko Mensink from Ziggo. Ziggo has yet to explicitly confirm that it will participate in the upcoming auction of 2.6GHz radio frequencies. In the future, UPC's parent Liberty Global could be a bidder for Ziggo, Telecompaper expects.
