The Axon comes with a 5.5-inch screen in a metal and glass casing in a choice of Phthalo Blue, Ion Gold or Chromium Silver, with a grill pattern designed to highlight colour contrasts. The LTE Cat 6 smartphone runs Android 5.1 and a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor with Adreno 430 GPU, 4 GB RAM, 32 GB memory and 3000 mAh battery with Quick Charge 2.0.
In what ZTE claims is an industry first in the US, the Axon features two dedicated audio chipsets for improved sound quality. The advanced audio capabilities include reduced wind noise, dual microphones, auto level controllers, and long-distance voice pickup to capture sounds from up to 20 feet away. JBL E13 in-ear headphones are included with the phone. The Axon also comes with dual rear cameras to capture high-resolution images and videos that can be viewed on a 4K TV and an 8-megapixel, wide-angle front camera. ZTE promises a "clean" Android experience with the phone, with few pre-loaded apps. Some included are Azumio’s Argus app, a pedometer supported by the company's venture fund, and the Rock my Run app to time music to the pace of steps.
In addition, ZTE offers the Axon Passport 1.0, a two-year warranty that also includes free shipping, 30-day buyer’s remorse returns and regular upgrades.
