3 launches UK's first VoLTE service
Mobile operator 3 UK has launched the UK's first VoLTE service and is calling it '4G Super Voice'. The VoLTE service is carried over 800 MHz spectrum, whose shorter wavelength is better at going through walls. It also carries further to reach remote rural areas. CTO Bryn Jones told the Telegraph, "Indoor coverage across the industry is always the hardest problem to solve, so all networks, whether it's 2G, 3G or 4G will always have coverage blackspots." 

The operator said that 4G Super Voice already covers half of the UK population for indoor coverage and over three quarters of the cities of London, Birmingham, Exeter and Edinburgh. The rollout is continuing in Manchester, Liverpool, Bristol and Cardiff. Handsets supporting 800 MHz include the Samsung Galaxy 5, LG G4, iPhone 6s and 6s Plus. Customers must update their software to the latest version to use 4G Super Voice. UK operators EE and O2 are trialling VoLTE.

Mobile operator 3 UK will offer the ZTE Blade V7 handset under an exclusive agreement with ZTE for the UK market, reports Mobile News, sealing its first partnership with the Chinese manufacturer. The ZTE Blade V7 will be available on post-paid tariffs priced from GBP 9 per month and no upfront cost (including 500MB of data, 300 minutes and unlimited texts). It will also be marketed at GBP 129.99 for prepay customers.

Mobile operator 3 UK announced that it has switched on an additional 5 MHz of 1800 MHz spectrum which it claims will increase its LTE speeds nationwide by up to 50 percent and boost service reliability as part of the ongoing rollout of its spectrum. The upgrade is already live at all of 3 UK's sites in Northern England, the West Midlands, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The rest of the UK, including London, will receive access to higher internet speeds when the rollout is completed.

O2 UK announces three new O2 Academy venues

O2 UK has announced three new O2 Academy venues in London, Manchester and Birmingham. The three new venues will be renamed as O2 Institute Birmingham, O2 Forum Kentish Town and O2 Ritz Manchester. O2 UK to trial VoLTE this summer

O2 UK plans to trial voice-over-LTE (VoLTE) technology in the fourth quarter and to launch commercial services next year, the company told Light Reading.
