Adtran launches Gfast access portfolio for gigabit speeds

Adtran has expanded its Software-Defined Access (SD-Access) portfolio with second-generation Gfast products cabable of gigabit speeds. The company said this is the industry’s first commercially available Gfast solution able to deliver speeds of over 1 Gbps, comparable to FTTH.

Deployments of Adtran Gfast equipment are already underway at Tier 1 carriers in Asia, Australia, North America and Europe. The company's products conform with amendment 3 of the ITU-T G.fast standard, which doubles the usable spectrum from 106 MHz to 212 MHz. Adtran said this makes possible aggregated bandwidth of 2 Gbps over Gfast, to deliver fibre-like speeds for multi-dwelling units. The increased capacity also helps operators with additional deployment flexibility, as Gfast-based services can be delivered to locations where they need to coexist with existing VDSL2 services.
